Where is Queenstown Snowmobiles located?

We depart from Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters which is located at 35a Lucas Place, Frankton (near Queenstown Airport). Don’t worry if you don’t have a car however, as we have a courtesy shuttle service to pick up & drop off from the centre of Queenstown or your accommodation.

 

What helicopter company do you use?

You will be flying in a large-turbine engine, 6-seater helicopter – either an Airbus AS350 B2 Squirrel, Airbus AS350 B3e Squirrel or an Airbus H130 T2. What is the minimum passengers per trip?

We require a minimum of 4 passengers to operate a trip. Don’t worry if you would like to book less than 4 passengers (say 1pax or 2pax) as our reservations team will combine bookings to get trips away, however it is always worthwhile touching base with us (+ 64 3 442 3031) when you arrive in Queenstown so we can give you the best idea of what is happening with the weather forecast.

 

What is the maximum passengers per trip?

6 + guide. All passengers will be operating their own snowmobile.

 

How much is the adult rate (17yrs +)?

$835

 

How much is the child rate (4-16yrs sitting rate)?

$585 – children ride as pillion passengers with an accompanying adult.

 

How old do you have to be to ride snowmobile?

17yrs (Proof of age required). You must be 17 years or older to operate your own snowmobile.

 

Is there a courtesy coach?

Yes – we pick up from the centre of Queenstown & most Queenstown accomodation. Just let us know where you would like to be picked up and we will let you know the time you need to be ready.

 

Is there a self-drive option to Snowmobiles at Nokomai?

No, access is by helicopter only. That’s part of what makes the trip so unique, you are snowmobiling in a back country area, on private land, not accessible to the public.

 

How long is the helicopter flight to Nokomai Station?

Approx. 13 minutes each way.

 

How long do we Snowmobile for?

1 hour 30 minutes of snow time (approx)

 

Will there be any stops during the Snowmobiling?

Yes, there will be approximately 3 stops. Our guides know all the best photo stop locations.

 

What clothing will be supplied?

Coveralls, helmets, gloves and boots will be supplied. (Coveralls, boots and gloves are not supplied for non-riders (ages 4-16) but we will supply helmets for them)

 

What do I need to bring?

Warm clothing (as if you were going up mountain)

We do supply overalls, helmets, gloves and boots but if you have suitable items of your own you can wear instead, go for it

Camera, Go Pros

Queenstown Snowmobiles are not responsible for any damage that may occur to your electronics

You may carry a small backpack to carry your camera

How often are the trips?

We depart at 10am, 12pm, 2pm (7 days a week)

 

What time do I have to be at the front office at Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters ready for departure?

You will need to be at the front office 20 minutes before your departure. For example if your trip is at 10am, you will need to check in at the front office at 9.40am.

When will I know if the trip is going ahead or not due to bad weather?

We require you to do a weather check with us 1 hour prior to your departure time. Please phone 03 442 3031 and our reservations team will inform you what is happening with the weather!

 

What happens if the weather is bad?

We do not fly or snowmobile if the weather makes it unsafe. All clients will be informed at the time of their weather check and offered an alternative day and time to fly and ride or a full refund will be given if you are unable to reschedule.

 

Will I be refunded if I cancel?

If you cancel within 24 hours from departure you will not be given any refund. If you cancel before 24 hours from departure you will be given a full refund.

 

Will I be able to purchase any photos of my trip?

Our pilot will be potentially be available to take photos of you either at the beginning or the end of the trip.

 

Is there a bathroom?

Yes, there is a Portaloo at the base of Nokomai where you begin and end your trip

 

What is the mountain range the Snowmobile tour operates from?

Garvie Mountains, on Nokomai Station, south of Queenstown.
